Swarovski Optik - Nature Through Lenses and Conservation

September 30th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Swarovski Optik, an off-shoot of the famous Swarovski crystal company, makes a variety of viewing instruments such as binoculars, telescopes, and optronic instruments. One of Swarovski’s main product lines are scopes marketing to nature watchers and photographers. These scopes allow the nature lover to view wildlife up close and even take incredible pictures. However, in addition to manufacturing tools to help people get closer to nature, Swarovski as a company also has close ties to the environment and nature.

The Swarovski Philosophy

Swarovski is headquartered in Tyrol, Austria, which gets all its electricity from hydropower. The area around Tyrol is full of mountains, forests, glaciers, and other monuments of nature, so it’s no wonder that the folks at Swarovski Optik have developed an affinity for nature and the environment over the years. It is also no wonder that these same nature lovers began to specialize in equipment designed to capture wildlife in all its glory.

In addition to loving nature, Swarovski Optik’s published business philosophy includes a commitment to the environment. The company employs the use of environmentally friendly manufacturing procedures and also supports many conservation projects worldwide. This love of and protection of nature gives the company a common goal with its customer, and perhaps is one of the reasons Swarovski Optik has built up such a reputation for quality, user-friendly products.

Swarovski Nature Projects

There is one WWF station for birds of prey in all of Austria, and it is successful due in part to Swarovski’s support. This station focuses on breeding the bearded vulture, which almost became extinct during the last century.

In addition to this station, Swarovski has initiated or supported numerous conservation efforts worldwide. Currently, Swarovski is working together with the Hornbill Foundation to build nesting aids for the hornbill population in Thailand. The goal is stabilize the population of this exotic bird, which has declined rapidly in the middle of the 1990s.

Swarovski also purchased a large piece of land in Poland for BirdLife, which is a partner organization of the company. This land is located on Karsiborska Kepa, an island just off of Poland that has a large area of unruined wetlands. Since the wetlands are disappearing around the world, this piece of land has become a sanctuary for 114 species of wetland birds. The number of species inhabiting this wetland is projected to grow as more and more wetlands are invaded by saltwater or human inhabitants.

There is a small area of Colombia that is home to one of the most endangered species of hummingbird in the Americas. That bird is the colorful puffleg, and Swarovski Optik has come forward to act as the protector of this tiny flitter. It is estimated that there are not more than two hundred and fifty colorful pufflegs remaining the entire world. In order to protect these birds from extinction, Swarovski has purchasing a large piece of land in Colombia to be used as a protected habitat. In addition to the rare colorful puffleg, there are sixteen other species of bird located in this land that are endangered, as well as two species of frogs.

In addition to supporting nature conservation by provide finances or buying land for protected habitat, Swarovski also lends its optic resources to the fight as well. One of the most endangered species on earth is the black rhinoceros. It is estimated that there are only two thousand black rhinos remaining in the world, and most of those live in Namibia. Since the black rhino was endangered due almost entirely to poaching, game wardens in and around national parks in Namibia keep a close eye on these big creatures. In order to help with this, Swarovski supplies these game wardens with state of the art telescopes, long-range binoculars, and even night-vision. Swarovski has also created watering holes in the area for the rhinoceros.

Swarovski has even brought its conservatory efforts to the United States. In conjunction with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Swarovski founded the “Migratory Bird Conservancy”, which is now being supported by over thirty other companies related to bird watching.

When Swarovski Optik says it is committed to the environment and those who love nature, they are not just leading into a sales pitch. They back up this commitment with a history of conservation and support, which gives them a great bond with their customers, many who love nature just as much as the maker of their telescope.

Rob Rich is the president and CEO of MEI Research, a Temecula, California- based company with many lighting/equipment manufacturing property supply for consumers, businesses, and the military. For more information on swarovski & telescope, check out http://www.meioptics.com/

Is Your Home-Based Business Be-Dazzling or Be-Scamming?

September 28th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Home based businesses are growing daily on the Web. These websites
owned by sole proprietors, family owned business, and small business
owners must compete with Fortune 500 companies.
How a website is perceived by the Internet consumers can determine
whether a business is successful or a dazzling failure.

In the early days, the mom & pop business that was operated out
of the garage was represented on the Internet as a home made
quaint little website that gave the consumer some trust that this
business was legitimate.

The potential customer felt they could do
business with this small company because the perception was the
website was created by the small business owner who is working hard to grow their
business on the World Wide Web.

As the popularity and profitability of the Internet grew, there was
an onslaught of shady business owners with splashy, flashy websites that
promised the world and delivered nothing. Online opportunity seekers
spent thousands of dollars
in cyberspace and received nothing for their hard earned money.

After a while these high priced websites were perceived as SCAM
central. Internet users were getting smarter and started clicking away
from these websites.

The down side to the scenario is that legitimate internet marketers
who understood web design started building sleeker, cleaner sites.
These legitimate small business owners were all lumped together
with the scam sites. It was difficult for the Internet consumer to make
a distinction between legitimate and non-legitimate sites.

As a result of these dazzling colorful sites, Internet consumers
perceived these glossy sites as either SPAM/SCAM or X-rated.
Consumers became leary of these sites and avoided providing any
information.

The amount of Spam that accompanied signing up
at one of these flashy sights resulted in tons of Spam in email
boxes. The smart consumers avoided these fancy websites like the plague.

These websites using multimedia with the dazzling
displays of colors and sounds were intended to impress the Internet surfer.
But there was the opposite reaction. Surfers regarded these sites as off limits.

Now the Internet has come full circle. Small businesses must compete with Fortune
500 companies who have a strong presence on the Internet. The Fortune 500 companies
have the technology and the money to create the best professional sites money can buy.

The mom & pop sites are no longer a standard to determine legitimacy.
Web surfers are sophisticated consumers who want to see a well designed site that
can be navigated seamlessly. Websites do not have to dazzle but they do have to look
professional and be well designed.

This shift in perception can enhance or destroy your business. Keeping your website
up to date using modern technology will enhance your business presence.

A hastily constructed home made website is no longer the standard that Internet shoppers
look for when determining the legitimacy of your business. The old mom and pop small business
look is passé.

The new business websites are sleek clean business cards that speak to the needs and
wants of the Internet community. Superb copywriters create the words and phrases that
pull customers into the site and lead the customer to the payment gateway.

The perception of the Internet buyer has changed - so must the face that you provide
to the Internet community.

This entire Internet may be all perception in all about perception. The customer
can not meet you face to face. The customer depends on your website to
determine your legitimacy. Since your business is your most important asset,
putting your best face forward is an important move.

Business, Communication, and Naked Conversations

September 26th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Don’t worry, you don’t need to get naked. However, if you own a business than I suggest that you get started. Robert Scoble, and Shel Israel created a book in 2006 titled, Naked Conversations, that emphasized the importance of businesses to communicate with their prospects by blogging. It didn’t become a very popular book, but I expect that in a year or so, this book will become more popular than it’s ever been when businesses realize how much their reverse funnel has become damaged.

Naked Conversations emphasize the importance of blogging for businesses, and how it can get these businesses more connected with their prospects. This simple idea has began the domino effect of a new marketing era, where communication and businesses go hand in hand, and the stronger the communication is, the stronger the business becomes.

In a world where business is controlled by it’s customers, communication and relationships are the key to success. If you have a business, and don’t communicate with your prospects, and build your relationship, don’t expect your business to last long. Simply selling products doesn’t work anymore. Communicating with your prospects however, gives you a better chance for your business to survive in this crazy world.

It’s this reason alone on why blogging has become so important. But even as we speak, blogging is changing as well. It’s changing from a way to communicate with people, to a way of building relationships with prospects, in order to build a stronger, more dedicated community for the company it’s associating with.

Naked conversations was the tipping point of the emphasis on relationships, and now we need to become even more aware of the situation that business is in, and how we can make the best of it. Naked conversations covered the basis of the reverse funnel, but there’s still a lot more that it hasn’t covered. The reverse funnel is building, and it’s becoming more important as time goes by.

In a world where communication can mean the difference between a dead business, and a purple cow, the reversed funnel has become mandatory for every and all businesses. You can learn more of this amazing technique and strategy by going to The Real Reverse Funnel Blog, and read the article What Is The Reverse Funnel?

How Network Marketers Are Being Financially Ruined in the MLM Industry

September 24th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Today many entrepreneurs are turning to the MLM Industry for answers. The answers the MLM Industry is offering is a possibility of financial freedom. Financial freedom has become the magnetic that attracts many into the industry. Only to find there are many problems that are not being disclosed.

Factors that cause Financial Ruins:

Factor 1: Hype

When a entrepreneur begins in the MLM Industry normally it’s based on hyped. The entrepreneur doesn’t realize what’s really involved when becoming a distributor. Normally there is a large upfront cost, with a presence of a monthly commitment. That monthly commitment can range from a certain number of distributors to a certain number of volume points per month. Based on that commitment , that can determines ones income. And if that commitment can’t be made one has lost. With this being a contributing factor, one can really loose big - if this process is continued.

Factor 2: Leads

Once one has gone through their warm market which includes family, friends, and co-workers, one tends to buy leads. These leads usually are NEW OLD Leads that are bought from ones up-line. By the leads being old in the beginning, the distributor can’t gain anything because there is no growth in the business from the leads.

Factor 3: Attrition Rate

The Attrition is rate is normally high in the Industry. Attrition rate is the number of customers and distributors that come back month after month. As a rule of thumb, a distributor is told when you do something once, you won’t have to do it again. And that’s not true, because a distributor can’t replace customers and distributors fast enough to have a steady growth in business.

Factor 4: Advertisement

One tends to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on commercials, flyers, pull tabs posters, hot pockets , car magnets, door hangers and buttons on advertisements. Only to have a very small conversion rate.

Factor 5: Motivational

Last but not least, one is told one needs to purchase motivational materials to keep the momentum and drive going strong. And even go to motivational events. More money!!

In the end with all these factors in mind, one can not truly have a financial freedom because of the financial burden of business growth.

Advertising Using Pay-Per-Click

September 18th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Advertising your products or services on the Internet is both extremely effective and extremely competitive. There are several ways to attract traffic to your website. Pay-Per-Click is one, as well as developing an SEO, or search engine optimization campaign. Both pay-per-click and SEO are targeted to get your website placed as close to the top of search engine results as possible. It takes only minutes to set up a pay-per-click campaign versus months for a good SEO campaign.

Pay-Per-Click is a simple type of paid advertising that most search engines now offer. It requires a bid for a “per-click” basis, which translates to your company paying the bid amount every time the search engine directs a visitor to your site. There is the added bonus that when a per-click site sends your website traffic, your site often appears in the results of other search engines.

As with all marketing, there are pros and cons. If you understand the process and monitor your pay-per-click campaign frequently, it can be very effective. One of the greatest advantages is that you never have to change your web pages to alter your position in search engine results, as you must do in a typical SEO campaign. What you do have to do in a pay-per-click campaign is pay a fee.

Another advantage is the simplicity of the pay-per-click process. You just bid and you’re up and running. It doesn’t require any real technical knowledge, though the more you know about search engines and keywords, the easier - and more effective - the process will be.

The downside is that pay-per-click is essentially a bidding war. A higher bid than yours will lower your position on search engine results. This means that you will have to raise your bid to regain your position - depending on the popularity of your key words this may becme very expensive.

In order to determine the effectiveness of Pay-Per-Click for marketing your business, you must do some calculations to work out how much each visitor to your site is worth. You can do this value by dividing the profit you make on your website over a given period of time by the total number of visitors for that same time period. For example, if your site made $5,000 in profits and there were 10,000 hits, each visitor would be theoretically worth 50 cents. The basic formula is profits divided by visitors.

The figure of 50 cents per visitor is the point at which your business breaks even. Therefore, you are aiming at a figure less than 50 cents per click.

Often the most popular keywords cost a lot more than 50 cents a click. The only way around this is to bid less for these phrases or you will be paying too much for each individual hit.

The key to success is to learn everything you can about researching search engine keywords. There are no limits to the amount of keywords you can add to your bid because additional keywords do not add additional cost. This means lot less hassle for you because there is no need to optimize your site for a particular set of keywords.

In pay-per-click, the written description is crucial. You must understand that the object of your description is not to generally attract visitors, but to be as specific as possible so that only those visitors who are likely to buy your service or product go to your site. This description is your most powerful tool to insure that your bid is profitable.

Another essential element of pay-per-click advertising is constant monitoring of your bid. With the major Search Engines the competition for top ranking is intense, and very often you will find that the bidding price balloons too high for pay-per-click to yield a profit.

Remember - don’t pay so much for your keywords that you can’t make a profit.

Since losing money is not the idea, you must have a plan in place to closely track the effectiveness of your keyword. It is advisable to monitor your keywords on at least a monthly basis.

Not only is careful monitoring important, but the analysis of visitor behavior can produce invaluable knowledge about consumer motivation, habits, and trends. Expert monitoring and consumer analysis is essential to your overall business needs, and will also insure that your campaign is a success.

Business in Spain - The Spanish Notary Public

September 14th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Hi! I’ve been living in Spain for almost twenty years. My wife is Spanish, my colleagues are Spanish, my customers are Spanish and by businesses are Spanish. Over these years I think I’ve learned quite a bit about “being Spanish”.

If you want to get into the under-exploited fast-growing Spanish market, you need to know more than just how to speak Spanish. You need to understand Spanish customs, Spanish etiquette and Spanish business culture. Otherwise, you’ll just be another American trying to “sell Spanish”.

One of the most important business institutions in Spain is the public notary.

Unlike in the United States, where almost anyone can become a Notary Public (my Mom was one), in Spain not only must you possess a law degree, but you must pass a very stringent access exam. Only then can you opt for a position of “Notario”.

In fact, the Spanish notaries are actually a strange mix of independent professionals and civil servants. The number of notary positions in a municipality is determined by the central government and their fees are set by law. However, once granted the right to open their office, the notary basically acts as any professional. They are responsible for hiring and maintaining there own staff and attracting there own customers.

The principle purpose of a notary in Spain is to witness, register and guarantee the legality of legal documents. However they also generally assume the responsibility of explaining the legal implications of the document to be signed assuring that all parties are well informed.

The following is a partial list of the proceedings which must be formalized by a notary:

  • Redacting and registering wills and final testaments.
  • Constituting a corporation or limited liability company.
  • Buying or selling properties which require a deed.
  • Prenuptial agreements.
  • Signing a loan or credit from a bank.

In Spain being a notary is a prestigious and very well-paying profession. The competition for passing the access exam and gaining a position is very fierce. Many law graduates spend between three and five years studying before presenting themselves for the exam.

Dennis H. Lewis has been living in Alicante, Spain with his wife and two children for almost twenty years.

He currently runs three successful companies entirely in the Spanish market.

If you would like to extend your business to the Spanish-speaking world, learn more about Spanish business culture or find marketing opportunities in Spain you must contact us.

If you need an English-Spanish translator who understands business, we’re the experts.

If you read Spanish have a look around our website and you’ll be able to see for yourself the absolute quality of our team members.
