Business Finance - Gaining a Business Grant

November 18th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Every new business needs finance when they are first starting up. You will need to buy equipment and your workplace will need to be set up as well as all of your marketing costs being sorted out but it doesn’t just stop here; when you are officially set up and your business starts making money you will need to cover all of your businesses bills and your staffs wages.

When it comes to finance needed to establish your business there are a number of options available to you. One of these options is grant finance. So what exactly is this grant finance? Grant finance is some of the money that is given to individuals or businesses for a specific project or purpose.

Grant finance however only covers part of the cost involved in your business project but the money that is given to you doesn’t need to be paid back. Grants are given to businesses to help with specific aspects of business development and they are available from a wide range of sources such as the Government, European Union and regional development agencies. These business grants are only given to businesses for a specific reason and there are a number of factors that may affect whether you are able to gain a grant such as your business activity or your specific business industry sector, some are also linked to certain geographical areas, which are in need of economic regeneration.

Business grants are notoriously hard to gain and there are only a certain amount that are available to businesses every year so the competition for these business grants is strong, which is why if you are hoping to gain one you need to clearly outline what the grant will be used for and how it will benefit your business as well as how it will benefit your local community. You will also need to clearly show that the specific project you want the money for hasn’t already started to take place and that you are able to put the rest of the money needed for your specific project to the grant money because, as mentioned earlier, a business grant only covers part of the money needed for a specific project.

A business grant will cover between 15% to 50% of the total costs involved in your business project so you will need to get hold of the rest of the money. If you gain a business grant when you don’t have the other half of the money available or you have already started the business project then you will be made to pay the grant back in full as you are breaking the terms of your business grant.

If you are hoping to make an application for a business grant then you need to make sure that you check what grants are available. Also there are a few factors that could affect you gaining a business grant such as the size of your business. Some grant providers will only give you access to a grant if your business is a small to medium business, ideally with less than 250 employees. As well as the size of your business you also have to think about your industry sector. This is because funding can often be limited and subject to restrictions in certain sectors, which are defined by the European Commission. Other restrictions include the location of your business and the purpose of your grant.

If you are going to apply for a business grant it is advised that you make your application well in advance of when your grant is needed as the applications can often take a while to process.

VoIP Business Phone Systems Reduce Your Telecommunications Costs

November 18th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Business VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol, has completely changed business phone system technology. Businesses are reducing costs using VoIP, improving customer service while gaining access to features and applications that increase worker productivity. The best business phone systems can stand the test of time and grow with your business needs. A business VoIP phone system is a long term asset that should serve your business for many years.

Purchasing the wrong business phone system can be a costly mistake. It can mean high levels of maintenance, service calls, and hardware that becomes obsolete in a couple of years. Service interruption alone can cost a business that relies on customer phone calls a tremendous amount of money. Most businesses spend a lot of time and money trying to get people to call so it is very important that those calls are handled with the utmost care. If they’re not, prospective customers are lost, profits are lost, and the business will suffer. It is important to have a reliable business phone system, skilled receptionists, and a voicemail system that works.

When a business decides to make the change to VoIP, professional help is needed all along the way from purchase to installation and administration to ensure a seamless transition to a new phone system. Important features such as call recording, call monitoring, call transfer, conference, hold, and access to the voicemail system must be considered. The business VoIP phone system that you choose should be designed for many years of quality service.
With VoIP service, phone calls travel over the internet as data just like e-mail does. A VoIP Business phone system can dramatically lower your telecommunications costs while increasing worker productivity. A recent survey estimated that the increased productivity, enabled by business VoIP, added up to 3.9 hours per week, per employee.

VoIP technology also provides useful features and capabilities that a conventional phone system can’t offer. VoIP service makes your phone system highly flexible, you can use your VoIP phone system anywhere there is a broadband connection. Many business VoIP systems include telephony software that enables you to send and receive calls using a headphone/microphone unit connected to your laptop. Many VoIP services allow you to have voice mail and faxes automatically forwarded to your regular e-mail inbox. Your phone number can have any available area code, not just the one assigned to your region which is a plus if your business is located in one city and your customers are in another.

Cross Cultural Solutions for International Business

November 17th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Globalisation, the expansion of intercontinental trade, technological advances and the increase in the number of companies dealing on the international stage have brought about a dramatic change in the frequency, context and means by which people from different cultural backgrounds interact.

Cross cultural solutions to international business demands are increasingly being viewed as a valid and necessary method in enhancing communication and interaction in and between companies, between companies and customers and between colleagues.

Cross cultural consultancies are involved in aiding companies to find solutions to the challenges cross cultural differences carry.

International and national businesses are ultimately the result of people. As with incompatible software, if people are running on different cultural coding, problems can occur. Cross cultural consultancies therefore concentrate their efforts on interpersonal communication.

Different cultures and cultural backgrounds between a highly diverse staff base brings with it obstacles, challenges and difficulties. Cross cultural differences manifest in general areas such as in behaviour, etiquette, norms, values, expressions, group mechanics and non-verbal communication. These cross cultural differences then follow on through to high level areas such as management styles, corporate culture, marketing, HR and PR.

In order to overcome potential pitfalls, specialist attention is required in the form of a cross cultural consultant. As one would approach a doctor for a medical diagnosis or an accountant to examine finances, cross cultural consultants offer the expertise, experience and know-how to diagnose problems and provide solutions to interpersonal cultural differences.

Within companies there are many facets in which cultural differences manifest. Some key areas which cross cultural consultants deal with include, but are not exclusive to, the following:

Cross Cultural HR: HR covers a wide range of business critical areas that need cross cultural analysis. Consultants may offer advice on a number of areas including recruitment, relocation, international assignments, staff retention and training programmes.

Cross Cultural Team-Building: in order to have a well functioning business unit within a company, communication is critical. Cross cultural consultants will provide tools and methods to promote staff integration, reduce cross cultural conflicts and build team spirit. This is essentially done through highlighting differences and building on strengths to ensure they are used positively.

Cross Cultural Synergy: international mergers, acquisitions and joint-ventures require people from different cultural backgrounds to harmonise in order to succeed. Cross cultural consultants counsel on group mechanics, communication styles, norms, values and integration processes.

Cross Cultural Awareness Training: working with colleagues, customers or clients from different cultural backgrounds, with different religions, values and etiquettes can occasionally lead to problems. Cross cultural awareness training is usually a generic introduction into a culture, country, region or religion. The aim is to equip the trainee with the adequate knowledge to deal comfortably with people from different cultures, avoiding misunderstandings and mistakes.

Cross Cultural Training for Expatriate Relocation: staff that travel overseas need to understand the cultural basics of the host country or region. Knowledge of the country’s history, culture, laws, traditions, business practices and social etiquettes all help to minimise the impact of culture shock and hence smooth their transition overseas.

Cross Cultural Negotiations: equipped with their knowledge of the two or more cultures that can be meeting around the negotiation table, a cross cultural consultant advises on areas such as negotiation strategies, styles, planning, closure and etiquette in order to increase the chance of a successful outcome, free from misunderstandings, suspicions and general cross cultural communication breakdown.

Cross Cultural PR Consultancy: brand image, public relations and advertising are all areas companies must be careful of when moving out of the national context. Tastes and values change dramatically from continent to continent. It is crucial to understand whether the brand name, image or advertising campaign is culturally applicable in the target country. Cross cultural consultants examine words, images, pictures, colours and symbols to ensure they fit well with the target culture.

Cross Cultural Language Training: Language training is an area where little investment is made by companies, but where the business advantages are great. Linguistic knowledge goes a long way in bridging cultural gaps and smoothing lines of communication. Cross cultural consultancies provide language training to business staff, moulding their learning to the business environment in which they work.

In conclusion, clearly the role and expertise of cross cultural communication consultants is important for today’s international business. The potential pitfalls cross cultural differences present to companies are extensive. In essence a cross cultural consultant’s primary objective is integration. This integration, between colleagues, clients and customers is crucial for business success. Equipped with experience, knowledge and above all objectivity, a cross cultural consultant creates bridges of understanding and opens lines of communication.

Could You Use Contextual Advertising For Your Blog?

November 14th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Blogging is a great way to get you noticed online, but there is often a conflict of opinion as to whether blogs should be monetized or not. On the one hand people reckon that blogs are supposed to represent a personal point of view about something rather than a commercial one, and on the other it could be said that blogging can be hard work and you shouldn’t be expected to do it for nothing.

Of course there is no right or wrong answer, but if you do happen to agree that blogs can and should be monetized then contextual ads are definitely a good way to go. Why? Because they will appeal to your visitors in a way that more general ads wouldn’t. Online contextual advertising is certainly picking up pace as more and more people realize you can get good results from it, but not everyone thinks about putting it to good use on their blog.

But contextual advertising doesn’t need to be in your face like many other forms of internet advertising are. It can be altogether more subtle than that - and as such this more understated approach can suit blogs rather nicely.

A good example of this kind of contextual advertising is the In-Text Advertising model. This doesn’t provide you with ad blocks to position on your website; instead it focuses on the content of your site, and looks for keywords that are relevant to the topic your site concentrates on. From there it finds you some ads that will link in nicely with those keywords and inserts them in your site by very simply underlining the keywords and leaving it at that.

Now if you were to look at a blog which has this kind of advertising on it, you wouldn’t immediately be hit by the amount of ads on the page. It wouldn’t detract from the overall viewing experience. Instead, you would start reading the content. As you come across one of those underlined keywords, you might well hover over it with the intention of clicking on it to see if it’s a link.

It is a link, but it’s not one you need to click on. Contextual advertising via In-Text ads means you will see a pop up window containing an ad related to that keyword. It’s neat, it’s attractive and the user decides whether or not they want to see it.

As such it is one of the best forms of advertising you can use on your blog. It’s always worth experimenting of course, but on the whole this gives you the best of both worlds - a monetized blog that doesn’t flash adverts at people on every page.

Kontera is an In-Text ad network that offers contextual advertising to publishers across the web. Kontera’s advanced contextual ad technology guarantees the highest degree of relevancy between content, keywords and ads.

Making Negative Advertising Work to Your Advantage

November 11th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

Unless you’re on the political campaign trail, negative ads don’t work-at least, that’s what conventional advertising wisdom says. And it’s what businesses have proclaimed until a very successful ad campaign from Apple came along, stole Microsoft’s thunder, and kept it, taunting everyone too old and too uncool to own a Mac along the way.

Negative advertising now popularly refers to a comparative method of advertising, whereby a business can promote itself by pointing out negative aspects of its competition. Promotion through competitor comparison is almost a foregone conclusion in an age of hyper-speed online information portals, which give consumers the ability to easily synthesize and compare vendor information. Gone are the days of ruining brand reputation through the use of negative ads. So how do you make negative advertising work for you?

1. First, consider the nature of successful ads, such as the Mac ads. Their success lies in the fact that they do not turn the opposition into a villain they can directly attack, but rather, into a buffoon, of whom they can make fun and ridicule. Capitalizing on the success of mock news shows like The Soup, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, negative advertisers are finding satirical humor to be not only hip, but lucrative as well.

2. Second, do not hesitate to go beyond print and T.V. ads and advertise online. The Internet has a wealth of product and service information which consumers can compare in a matter of seconds, and which can work to your advantage.

When marketing and advertising online, frame the information for potential consumers. Explain the information they are seeing in terms that would boost your brand reputation. Openly disapprove of other competitor’s policies, if applicable. Distinguishing your brand from others and advertising accordingly is quite easy to do online.

3. Third, don’t forget to involve the consumers as often as possible in your online advertising efforts. You’ll find that consumers will do most of the work for you in terms of negative advertising online. For instance, a 2006 contest to create a new ad for GM on the show The Apprentice spawned many negative video ads mocking GM, which were circulated on YouTube and other web pages.

But before you decide to initiate any such contests, do your homework. Don’t hit consumers with a barrage of negative information. Make your ads count. And always work to get young and/or web-savvy consumers on your side.

4. Last, don’t be afraid of being a target. Accept negative advertising pointed toward your brand name, and roll with it. Nothing is more endearing than one’s ability to laugh at oneself. In the face of competition, come out with your own ad, promoting your brand as, in the words of Kanye West, “taller, better, faster, stronger.”

Web Site Advertising - The Magic Of Using A Freelance Writer

November 6th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

It bothers me how people insist on continuing to spend fortunes on web site banner advertising and other forms of online advertising even when they are still receiving a fraction of a percentage in terms of a response and end up with very little to show for all the good money they have spent. But most folks just keep on spending hoping for some sort of miracle.

The reason it bothers me is that there is a simple alternative where all you need is an online freelance writer or content provider who understands a little SEO (search engine optimization) and also understands just a little marketing and the results will be nothing short of magical and miraculous. And not only will you get a much better response from your advertising but your money will have been much better invested so much so that from a small campaign you do today, you can expect to receive healthy returns in terms of traffic for years and years to come.

Why Most People Have No Idea How Articles Can Be Used For Web Site Advertising
You may have met many folks who swear that promotional articles are a waste of time. If you enquire further you will find that they’ve had a bad experience with article marketing because all they did was write a few articles and post them at article directories. How can any intelligent person expect a decent response from that? After all that’s what everybody else does. The best you can expect from a stunt like this, assuming that you use a super high traffic articles directory, is a dozen hits or so in the first day, which quickly dwindles to zero by the second day.

The right way to use articles to generate tons of traffic for any site is to start out with a freelance online writer who is aware of the two main objectives promotional articles must aim to achieve.

Firstly promotional articles should be used as a way to quickly build one-way links pointing to your site. The way to do this is to include at least two links in the resource box and one in the main body of the article. The anchor text you use for the links are terribly important and have to be selected carefully with your SEO strategy in mind. What will usually happen is that if your article is any good, other webmasters will see it and re-post it at their sites complete with your links. Others will link directly to it.

Secondly you should use the articles you write as mini sites on their own capable of a high ranking with search engines for various popular keywords. Naturally a substantial amount of traffic they receive will be directed to your site. It does not matter whether you post the article at your site or at a high traffic articles directory site.

Find out how you can identify a web advertising freelance writer who knows how to use articles effectively. Or discover how you can get web advertising promotional articles written for you that can generate tons of traffic.

This can be only done with hiring an online advertisement agency.

As these agencies offer the strength of online advertisement network amalgamated with targeting technology. The advertisers can benefit from it by having their banner ads published over the network in relevant positions. Advertising - Is it Really the Key to Online Success?

November 5th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

The title of this article might seem a little obvious, but the thing you need to remember is that this is a universal truth. Without effective advertising there is basically no chance that your site or your online business will succeed. I don’t care if you have the fanciest site with the best product and content on the internet. If nobody knows it there and nobody sees then who cares? It would be impossible for me to cover all of the ways that you can advertise your site in one article, so this will simply cover the basics and get you pointed in the right direction.

The first distinction that you need to be aware of is that there is free advertising and paid advertising. I am sure that you have heard that free advertising is worthless and that paid advertising is where you want to spend your money. I contend that you really should not write-off free advertising and that you should really judge each and every option that you available. In fact, many paid forms of advertising are a complete rip-off.

As I am sure that you have heard, article marketing is now considered one of the most effective forms of advertising available today. The reason that it is so effective is that it can deliver the most laser targeted traffic on the internet. Many people start looking for information by going to their favorite search engine and typing in terms that they are looking for. Don’t you do this yourself? You have a question or a problem, so you go to a search engine and find an article that provides you with a solution! Oh yah, I forgot to mention, article marketing is free.

On the other hand, with paid advertising you are simply buying leads. I don’t care if you are using PPC or buying banner ads. It is all just different forms of buying leads from someone else. In my opinion this is one of the most worthless and potentially dangerous things that you can do for your business.

First, in many cases you don’t really know where these leads came from. You don’t even know if these people are truly interested in what you are selling or if they were just slightly curious about your ad. The majority of these types of purchased leads or traffic are generally extremely untargeted.

Second, you need to be aware of the possibility of receiving spam complaints. Be very careful when emailing leads. You want to make sure that you use a professional autoresponder company and NEVER buy email lists. Emailing these purchased email leads using your own email account is a sure way to have your business destroyed literally overnight.

101 High Paying AdSense Words

November 4th, 2008 by Manufacturing Business

The term ‘AdSense’ is defined as: a Google system of advertising for blogs and other websites. Subscribers can insert fairly unobtrusive Google ads and earn revenue from the users who view the ads or click on them. The ads are targeted to the keywords on the web page. - about.com

For a typical blogger or website owner, we make money when someone clicks on one of the Google Ads on our site, or per 1000 impressions of the AdSense links. For most of us, we already know how hard it is to get people to click on these links and even if they do, sometimes the chosen ads are low paying ones because of the keywords used on our page.
